I never thought that a phrase could get people riled up.
Recently I witness and to a certain extent, I am still witnessing the 2020 election. This election was crucial for both sides “for the soul of America”. But this election was
different for one reason and one reason only, the youth vote.
All my life I have been a resident of Georgia, there were a few things engrained in my mind about Georgia. I knew the name Sonny Perdue before I knew he was the governor and Georgia like the other southern states is red. But this never made sense to me because of the distinct difference between Atlanta & the metro area and rural Georgia. Atlanta plays second fiddle to the other sprawling metropolises
due to this crisis of identity. The city is progressive but only as progressive as conservative leadership allows it to be.

This Is Changing.
The days of elections being swept under the rug are over. When referring to the rest of the country, Georgia and the rest of the bible belt states have the most restrictive voter registration rules compared to the rest of the country. This
came to the nation’s attention in 2018 with the extremely close race between
Stacey Abrams and Brian Kemp. I voted back then I knew something was missing,
and now I know. In that race, different news sources cited that Brian Kemp and
his offices oversaw the election as well as being responsive for purging votes
in Georgia at the same time.
This sly disguise of voter suppressions riled up the youth in Georgia to do something.
Feeling like they were robbed of the elections Stacey Abrahams and her office’s set out a large-scale campaign to get more people registered to vote. This resulted in
800,000 new voters added to Georgia’s voter pool finally turning the state blue
after decades of being a Republican stronghold. We must count every vote
regardless of zip code or tax bracket.
On November 3rd I was working with a friend of mine on a documentary and these are the people I met and the things I saw.
